My dear Mr. [Lazarus?]

I don’t think I have ever been more touched or gratified than I was to receive your letter showing that my “Old Church” was thinking of me and wished to help me in this work that I am beginning.

I am returning $5.00 of the amount you sent for I really have very little use for money for the people do not want you to give them things. They are working to help raise money for the school and it seems to add to their interest to feel that they can help. I want and I do need another teacher so if you can turn into a home missionary and come to my aid I can keep you busier than you ever were before. I have twenty children in my class then there is Bible class. In my class I have two Italians and the prospect of some Hungarians, one of my little Italians is the brightest child I ever saw and he has learned his catechism and I have sent for his Testament give my dear love to Mrs. [same name as addressee] & Mary.

I know how dreadfully you miss Cora.

I wish you could see my little Lloyd he is about ready to walk & just gabbers all of the time.

Thanking you a thousand times for remembering me and best love,

I am

your sincere friend,

Karl/Kurt Lloyd Martin

I forgot to tell you that I had subscribed for the Children’s Friend for the children with the money you sent. Please excuse the paper.
